Natural Art Forms is special event celebrating the United Nations International Year of Mountains and is being held at Coyote Creek Art Village from July 1, 2002 until September 14, 2002. The event is being held in conjunction with the Monashee Arts Council with support from the BC Arts Council, Adventure Okanagan Co-operative and Made in the Okanagan.com.
Natural Forms will bring together artists and craftspeople from throughout the Okanagan Region to participate in workshops, demonstrations, exhibitions and special events that relate to the creation of art and in particular three dimensional work such as sculpture in a unique and rustic studio environment in the Monashee Foothills.
During the event three large-scale sculptures depicting the human interaction with the natural world will be produced for placement at various locations in the North Okanagan. This work will be created in a learning environment with a number of artists and within full view of visitors.
Natural Forms will also include a wood sculpture demonstration called, Earthprints in Wood during the month of August which is co-sponsored by the Village of Lumby. Over the course of the summer a number of sculptors will be creating mixed media work for the Sculpture Trail and the Coyote Creek Gallery will be home to a number of co-operative group shows using the themes of Natural Form and Mountains.
Workshops and Retreats during the event are within the categories of Sculpture, Painting, Photography, Public Art and the Business of Art. A number of special events will be taking place during the festivities that will link the artist with the public.
The event is part of the Monashee Summer School of the Arts and the weekly Art Trek which encourages visitors to explore artists studios in the Monashee.
