Explore the Okanagan watershed area and the famous Kokanee Salmon Spawn. After the last ice age some 10,000 years ago, Columbia River sockeye are suggested to have migrated into what is now the Okanagan, and established a sockeye salmon population. During this guided tour you and your family will paddle a historical Voyageur canoe from Cedar Creek to Mission Creek on beautiful Okanagan Lake. Here you will be able to view the spawning Kokanee in their natural habitat.  You will have lunch on the beach and mountain bike along Mission Creek.

Natural Art Forms brings together artists and craftspeople from throughout the Okanagan Region to participate in workshops, demonstrations, exhibitions and special events that relate to the creation of art and in particular sculpture, in a unique and rustic studio environment in the Monashee Foothills. The event is being held in conjunction with the Monashee Arts Council with support from the BC Arts Council and Adventure Okanagan Co-operative.
Workshops and Retreats during the event are within the categories of Sculpture, Painting, Photography, Public Art, and Sustainable Business Practices. Art exhibitions using the themes of "Natural Form" and "Mountains" happen all summer long. August includes the "Living Earth" workshop series that links sustainable lifestyle issues and mountain environments.

Attractions include the Cherryville Artisans Shoppe, Landslide Studios and Coyote Creek Art Village and Rendezvous Camp.

A Summer Camp at the Canadian Adventure and Education Centre (CANADEC) near Salmon Arm BC spanning seven days for youth ages 13-18 or leadership interns ages 19-25. Participants will take part in Learning Modules that include: Ecology/Environment/Agriculture activities with a variety of eco-sysytems; Community Activities; and  Recreational Activities that includes, hiking and kayaking, challenge high ropes course, fishing, bicycling. Also included: English as a Second Language programming; and Media/public relations.

In celebration of IYM, Adventure Okanagan links two discovery camps The Canadian Adventure and Education Centre (CANADEC) and Coyote Creek Art Village & Rendezvous Camp. Set in a forest, farm and wetland ecosystem, CANADEC includes the Shuswap's premiere high and low ropes challenge course where you are encouraged to "play to learn." Coyote Creek is a learning and wellness centre/artists' retreat set in the Monashee foothills. This adult oriented five day discovery package explores the elements of Water, Air, Spirit, Earth and Fire within the ancient Shuswap and Okanagan drainage basins.

Four days of exploring beaches, swimming and biking trails in the Vernon area then explore the Monashee wilderness area with a guided interpretive Full Moon hike to the top of Coyote Sleeping. Stargaze and learn about the nightlife that exists at the top of a mountain then view the spectacular sunrise. Stay overnight in a Tipi at an Art Village and explore a sculpture trail within an interpretive forest, work and play in an art studio, dinner over an open fire and then explore river swimming holes, waterfalls and hiking and biking trails in the Monashee.

It was in the late 1800's when a highlander named Donald McIntyre, while prospecting, ventured into the far-reaching eastern edge of the Okanagan. The day had been one mixed with rain, snow and strong winds. Toward the evening, the wind withdrew and the clouds began to unveil snowcapped peaks cast in a hue of violet. McIntyre exclaimed in his mother tongue, "Monashee!",  the Mountains of Peace.

That christening has become synonymous with an undiscovered frontier of spectacular vistas, rich magical forests and crystal clear water. The gateway point to this sparsely populated region that links the Okanagan with the Kootenays can be seen from the hills above Kalamalka Lake before the decent into Vernon. The mountain that marks the eastern edge of the Okanagan is called the Camels Hump, which is what is looks like, however to the local mystics that pay homage to the power points and the sacred places.....find out more....

A GOLD SEEKERS QUEST
Date: June - September
Time: Every Thursday 12noon  7pm
Cost: $55 per person,

A guided tour along the historic Kettle River where participants can experience a traditional gold placer site in a forested box canyon. You will participate in a demonstration performance that includes working a claim with a prospector. You will learn "how to read a river" and to identify river stones and rock outcroppings. You will explore the natural habitat of the rivers edge, learn the history of gold panning while you work a pan and find gold.
